Bellicose Fantasy Battles is a massive 30mm fantasy table-top war game. You can carefully customize your army to fit your own playing style then test your skill (and luck) against an opposing army. A table-top game is one that does not have a standard board with spaces for movement and player actions. Instead, Bellicose has figurines or paper cut-outs, scaled to 30mm size, to represent individuals that move around on any flat surface, typically a large table. Table-top games usually have a few more rules than card games or board games, but Bellicose tries very hard to keep the game simple while maintaining a high level of depth.
Bellicose as a mass-combat war game means it is military based. Models are typically called troops and organized into units/regiments. Things that could be done on a real battlefield, such as shooting, close combat, and fleeing, are represented by the game play. Models have statistics which describe their skill and use various methods to attack their enemies. Planning and strategy (read as deception) are both very important aspects of the game.
Bellicose is set in the fantasy genre, meaning elves, dwarves, and orcs are all part of the game. Other creatures also exist that are not quite so well known, but by and large, the game stays fairly close to the typical fantasy category. Expect magic and heroism to be a mainstay in Bellicose. Nothing is more prevalent than the uncommon and adventure always appears when least expected. The history and background of each of the races in Bellicose adds depth and color to the game. See the Races of Bellicose page for more details.
In addition to all that, Bellicose is also a hobby. Players can spend as little or as much time as they choose customizing and assembling their forces. Paper miniatures, figures printed on card stock, are an easy and affordable way to create a full battlefield of playing pieces.
